Schizlobium parahybum

This picture is of the only item in all of this website that is not actually at Indian Rock (our customers clean us out before we can plant one ourselves!).  This tree is located at one of our favorite friends home in east Vista, having nearly the same climate as ours.

It grew to this amazing size from a citrus pot, with trunk length about 3 feet and trunk diameter of 1 inch, in less than 2 years.  The owner reports that during a Santa Anna the leaves are stung but rapidly recover.  This tree is becoming very popular with palm and cycad growers because it is well known that every plant, even a blue plant from a hot area, enjoys canopy.  Green plants grown beneath this tree have deep color and body.  Perhaps more important is the fact that the plant grown beneath this tree is not stressed during its infancy and it can fully develop its root structure.  Some of our customers are growing many of these trees (thickly) with the intention of paring them later when the plants beneath have grown.
