Dioon califanoi

There are 4 of these ranging from 4" to 8" in containers and 8 of these that are about 6" to 8" in the ground. This species is the most sought after Dioon.  Its signature feature is the keel leaves (shaped like the bottom of a boat).  From Oaxaca, Mexico, it zooms in a full sun, hot climate yet does well growing slowly in shady areas.  When grown in the full arc of the sun it changes from its typical green-gray color to that of slightly blue which you can see below.  One of our Bakersfield, CA customers reported that one of his recent Dioon purchases flushed 3 times and doubled in size in one year--that is an extraordinary event and a testament of what this cycad wants.
